Finding the location of SIM
card depends on whether the SIM card is inside a mobile or just
the SIM card all by itself not inside any mobile device.
SIM cards are small
circuits integrated in a plastic chip roughly the size of finger
nail. By itself it does not transmit any signal and does not
contain any power source so it is not possible to locate the
exact location of a sim card in real time if it is not inserted
in any mobile phone device at the time. At most it might be
possible to find out the last location when it was under network
coverage. The network coverage can be from any last device like
data card, feature phone, smart phone, tablet etc.
On the other hand, in case
the SIM card is inside a working mobile device which is switched
on it is possible to find the real time location of the sim
card. To get the location information you would need the SIM
number (normally printed on the SIM itself and in the retail
packaging) and the associated mobile number. Normally the
telecom operator issuing the SIM will require an application
along with a valid ID proof to locate the SIM location for a
small fee. In some cases when the SIM is not registered to the
person requiring the location information, an FIR copy might be
required. In case of any unfortunate event or emergency it is
always a good idea to first lodge an FIR with the local police
and then approach the telecom service provider company for
information on tracing SIM location. Using GPS based cellular
triangulation techniques mobile operators will be able to
provide you the address of the SIM where it was last used when
it registered on network. It is also possible to get call
records and SMS details for the same.
