Q: What is NCPR?
A: NCPR stands for
National Customer Preference Register. It is often called DND –
Do not disturb list. It is a central database maintained by the
telecom regularity authority of India to help telecom customers
from spam and unwanted calls from telemarketers.
Q: How does NCPR help
telecom subscribers?
A: Any telecom
subscriber can register in NCPR. Once registered with NCPR he
would not receive any unwanted telemarketing calls and SMS.
Q: Is the service free for
subscribers? Any monthly / one time charge for availing the
service?
A: The NCPR service
is completely free for Indian telecom subscribers and they do
not have to pay any registration or on going recurring charges
for availing the service.
Q: How can one register for
NCPR/DND?
A: One can register
for NCPR/NDND by calling on 1909 and following the instructions
or sending an SMS to 1909. To fully block all unsolicited calls
from all categories send an SMS “START 0” to 1909
Q: What if I want to
partially block a specific list of telemarketers?
A: NCPR provides with
two options to block telemarketers – Fully block all
telemarketers and to block telemarketers from some specific
sectors or categories. All the telemarketers fall in one of the
seven categories namely; Banking/Insurance/Financial
products/credit cards, Real Estate, Education, Health, Consumer
goods and automobiles, Communication/ Broadcasting/
Entertainment/ IT & Tourism and Leisure. One can only block some
selected categories or all categories all together.
To partially block call 1909 and follow the
instructions or send an SMS “STOP #” to 1909. Replace # with a
number from 1 to 7corresponding to the categories below:

Q: Is it possible to change
my preferences once I have registered in NCPR?
A: Yes, it is very
much possible to change one’s preferences for NCPR any number of
times.
Q: I have registered
in NCPR, but I still receive unsolicited commercial calls/SMS.
What could be wrong?
A: Once registered in
NCPR, it takes 15-20 days for all unwanted commercial calls and
SMS to stop completely. If you continue to receive them check
your NCPR status here. In case it shows as un-registered , you
need to register once again, as the last request to register was
un successful.
Q:
What steps can I take if I continue to received unwanted
commercial calls and SMS despite of being registered on NCPR?
A: You can lodge a
formal complain with the TRAI at www.nccptrai.gov.in. You will
receive a complain registration number for the same. You can
know the status of your complain by tracking the complain
number on www. nccptrai.gov.in .
Q: I had registered on NDND.
What happened to NDND registry?
A: NDND or National
do not disturb registry has been merged with NCPR. Subscribers
who had registered for national do not disturb registry need not
register with NCPR again. NDND subscribers have been migrated to
NCPR registry. |
